Los Angeles is famous for being famous! But is Los Angeles expensive? only if you live here but there are plenty of bargains and free things to do in DTLA for visitors.
Los Angeles is the entertainment capital of the world, offering a multitude of attractions, experiences and outdoor activities. Movie studios, the Sunset Strip, Venice Beach, landmark museums, world-famous theme parks, wineries, breweries, outdoor activities, exciting nightlife, are what most people come for. But don’t make the mistake of missing downtown Los Angeles; Hollywood is where they used to make movies, but downtown is where they still do make movies and we routinely see film shoots out on tour!
Even though Los Angeles is an expensive city to live in, it is an inexpensive city to visit. If you time your visit to a downtime at the LA Convention Center, you can get great prices on some 5 start hotels in DTLA. I just checked the Intercontinental Hotel, located inside LA’s tallest building, with floor to ceilings windows, and it’s only $350 per night!
There are a ton of free activities, such as the Broad and MOCA museums, visiting the Bradbury and Fine Arts buildings, and lots of free music programming at the Music Center, Grand Park, Grand Performances and Pershing Square.
We’ve even published a free bike tour.
But a Handlebar Bike Tour with a guide, bike and helmet is only $60, not bad for a 2.5 hour immersive DTLA experience.
