Looking for things to do in L.A.? There’s plenty of travel influencers making recommendations out there, but you might not find Handlebar Bike Tours, or even downtown L.A. on many Influencer’s radar. Travel influencers and travel pages are almost always touting food and consumerism as travel activities. While I love eating and always need to do a little shopping on a trip; I think we all long for an immersive travel experience that gives you the feeling of being a part of where ever you’re visiting, not just an outside lurker doing all the same things the other tourists are doing.

I’ll see an influencer post about how to spend a day in L.A. that sound like this. Start the day with breakfast at The Griddle Cafe, then head to Go Get Em Tiger for coffee, then grab mochi at Fugetsu-do, and duck in to Space City Vintage, blah blah blah. While I love all these places, that’s a lot of eating, and not a lot of experiencing beyond transactional.

It’s why I always take a bike tour when visiting another city, even if I have to rent a bike and chart a course myself. When you encounter other cyclists, they don’t see you as a tourist. You’ll cover a lot of ground, yet slow enough to see the details that make up the character of a city.

Don’t get me wrong, influencers definitely provide some insider knowledge, but of course you’ve got to take it with a grain of salt as we all know many are paid to tout that coffee shop, etc.

If you come on a Handlebar Bike Tour with us, you will get an immersive, unique experience every time. Our guides are not just going through the motions, they truly love L.A. and spending the day with new friends cycling in the California sun.
