The best place to find free summer concerts is in Downtown Los Angeles.

If you’re looking for things to do in downtown Los Angeles one of the best ways to experience the vibrant energy of DTLA is by attending one of the many free concerts in its streets and parks. From the soulful beats of Grand Performances to the lively atmosphere of Chinatown Summer Nights, there’s something for every music lover to enjoy. So grab your friends, pack a picnic, and get ready to groove into summer with these must-see concerts! Here are a few of Handlebar Bike Tours’ favorite free venues in DTLA:

Grand Performances

Grand Performances is a renowned series of free outdoor concerts held at the California Plaza in the heart of downtown LA. Since its inception, Grand Performances has been committed to showcasing diverse and innovative performances that tap the rich culture of Los Angeles. From world music and jazz to dance and spoken word, each event promises an unforgettable experience under the stars and twinkling skyscrapers. Its also just a quick trip up Angel’s Flight from our home at Grand Central Market.

Chinatown Summer Nights

For the dancers; experience the magic of Chinatown Summer Nights, a beloved summer tradition that transforms the streets of Chinatown into a bustling outdoor festival. This family-friendly event features live music, food trucks, artisan vendors, and cultural performances that capture the spirit of this historic neighborhood. Whether you’re craving delicious eats or looking to dance the night away, Chinatown Summer Nights offers a taste of LA’s vibrant cultural scene under the twinkle of Chinese lanterns. If you want to stay on the dance floor late night, Grand Star Jazz Club will keep the party going after everyone else heads home.

Divercity Pershing Square

Divercity Pershing Square is a dynamic summer concert series that celebrates the diverse talents of LA’s music and arts community. Held at Pershing Square, this free event showcases an eclectic lineup of local musicians, dancers, and visual artists who come together to create a truly immersive experience. There is usually a beer garden, that can get a little Furiosa/Madmax for the more popular events. Although free, many events put on by Divercity require an Eventbrite ticket, and get there early if you want to score a premium shady spot.

Grand Park Sunday Sessions

Sundays are meant for relaxation and rejuvenation, and there’s no better place to unwind than Grand Park Sunday Sessions. Held at the iconic Grand Park, this weekly concert series features live music, yoga sessions, and interactive workshops that encourage community engagement and wellness. This is probably the most chill, and family friendly of the events. Whether you’re stretching out on the lawn or dancing to the rhythm of the music, Grand Park Sunday Sessions offers a peaceful sanctuary in the heart of the city.

Levitt Pavilion MacArthur Park Concert Series

Nestled in the heart of historic MacArthur Park, the Levitt Pavilion offers a summer concert series that celebrates the power of music to bring people together. With a lineup of artists spanning genres from rock and soul to Latin and reggae, Levitt Pavilion showcases the best of LA’s local and international talent. MacArthur Park has a bit of a bad reputation, but I’ve always felt safe and welcome at these events, and the view of DTLA is spectacular. This is one you can bring a chair, and pack a little cooler; although I recommend you try many of the street vendors selling elote(corn), churros, fruit, etc.
